Letter: Turkey Head a ‘window to the Salish Sea’

I certainly hope that our community will reinvent Turkey Head for 2022. This well-located, seafront site should be a lot more than a boring and ugly parking lot.

It is a great window to the Salish Sea and has room for public art, a heritage centre, and a pier over the rocky breakwater at the end, for example.

We could rebuild the old Oak Bay Boathouse as a heritage centre and tell the stories of Sealand of the Pacific, the late bird artist Fenwick Lansdowne and Victoria Harbour Migratory Bird Sanctuary (est. 1923), the oldest bird sanctuary in Pacific Canada, which surrounds Oak Bay entirely, among others.

This could become the coolest public space in Greater Victoria.
