There is so much that is cringe worthy in news it seems curmudgeonly to frown on attempts to lighten things up. But there are bridges too far. Your front page headline “District wants more doe from province” (Nov. 22) is some slouchy pun-slinging at best.

English poet and literary critic John Dryden called puns “the lowest and most grovelling kind of wit.”

Please consider a cap on groan-worthy puns that trivialize legitimate news stories lest we be ushered back to the romper room by your punny headline writers.
