LETTER: Reader questions allowing whale watching in Oak Bay

May 3 public hearing results up for discussion Monday in Oak Bay

We all have our own vision for the future of this beautiful community. When we act or comment on what is happening in this wonderful place it is that vision that informs us.

I support our Official Community Plan and the vision it sets out for Oak Bay. Environmental issues are front and center in the plan so how does the addition of noisy motor boats and more diesel buses full of tourists coming and going from the Oak Bay Marina enhance the vision?

When I heard about the addition of zoning changes to support whale watching tours to the public hearing on May 3, I was shocked.

Never would I have guessed that noisy boats coming and going from the marina; crowding innocent animals along our shoreline and in the ocean nearby; tourist buses loading and unloading people who pay upwards of 100 each to head out hoping to catch a glimpse of local marine life would form part of this community’s vision of its future.

This is a wrong move and should not be supported for many reasons.
