LETTER: Oak Bay green bin attacked by animal

Layer of cayenne pepper stops animal's third attempt to get into green bin
bin
A green bin Sylvan Lane was attacked by an animal.

Our green, compost, recycling bin was attacked by an animal overnight. There are clearly teeth marks on the edges of the lid. The contents were no different than usual. The animal didn't succeed in getting to the contents as the lid was secured down. This happened on two consecutive nights. On the third night the bites were stopped by a layer of cayenne pepper.

We canvased some of our neighbours here on Sylvan Lane, Gonzales Hill. So far no other incidents have been noticed. Could it be a young raccoon or a squirrel? Have any other Oak Bay News readers noticed any damage to their bins? Could anyone shed some light on this?
