Re: Name the fawns Lunch and Dinner (Letters, Oak Bay News, Aug. 22)

My goodness, Lunch and Dinner? The writer has taken a very harsh stand on Oak Bay deer and I wonder if there is more to the story.

My grandchildren visit Oak Bay every year from London, England and each morning we rise at 4 a.m. and begin our day by counting deer along with a side trip to Tim’s. Last year they counted 36 deer, a record for our 90-minute drive about. We also saw seven racoons, 29 rabbits and a varied thrush in an oak tree.

This year we counted 24 deer and when asked why so few I had to explain what a cull was and that some people don’t like deer. They understood and said it would not be healthy if there were more deer than people; Oak Bay would become as it was before its discovery.

Maybe the deer should be named Cool and Sassy.
