Re: Arts spending costs district in infrastructure (Letters, OakBayNews.com)

A recent letter in the Oak Bay News links deteriorating infrastructure to spending on Public Art.

This a rather sinister opinion. Is it really a question of either or? I do not thinks so. We too have noticed more bumps in the road which do need attention in maintenance, but to link spending a few dollars on Public Art with less infrastructure maintenance is rather absurd.

Not only is the spending on Public Art rather minimal, our residents (and others) are also invited to donate funds to the district of Oak Bay for the purchase of Public Art to offset tax dollars being spend. The Public Art initiative should be celebrated as it certainly contribute to the quality of live of all residents and visitors. I suggest Mr. Filan makes a donation to the district of Oak Bay and earmarks it ‘infrastructure’. Ours is earmarked Public Art.
