The bike lanes going in on Cadboro Bay Road this month stirred up more than just traffic. Viewpoints are varied in the online discussion surrounding the lanes, changes to traffic flow and the ‘high conflict’ green spaces.

Below find a handful of the comments:

Molly Martin – I was glad to see the paint, it’ll make it much safer down there when school starts again. It’s a gong show in the morning at drop-off, and I worry about riders.

David Leach – Makes these intersections much safer for cyclists.

Marjorie Grant – Practically right in front of my door. You should smell them.

Andrew Gorrie – Crooked.

Eva Eaton – Confusing for drivers!

Erik Abbink – I’m welcoming more of these as they improve cyclists’ safety.

Tressa Bee – Us drivers will learn the new routine, we can do it! Us cyclists will feel more confident biking our kids to the rec centre!

Andrea Liesting – I am hoping the mass amount of green is for cars to see the lane but man oh man that is totally horrific for cyclists to have to look at while cycling down that lane all the time if it is something they do regularly. I understand the potential reasoning behind it but I would find that so distracting. It’s almost giving cyclists the idea that they don’t know what they are doing and acting as a childish guide of where to go when in fact most cyclists can manage better on the roads than people in their vehicles.

POLL: Do you think recent upgrades mean Cadboro Bay Road is safer for cyclists?
