Deer cull cost will rise

That is a lot of taxpayer dollars for something that is unnecessary.

In response to your reader’s questions about deer culls and numbers the provincial vet when asked if a cull would be ongoing said yes.

She further stated that the number 25 was arbitrary and not decided by any scientific analysis.

Regarding cost to the taxpayers, we were told that Oak Bay had budgeted $12,500 or $500 per deer. Invermere has just had to raise their budget to $1,000 per deer.

I don’t know if circumstances are different there than Oak Bay but I would not be surprised if Oak Bay would have to do the same. That is a lot of taxpayer dollars for something that is unnecessary.

It would be nice to know how much money has already been spent but transparency seems to lacking.
