Battery exchange makes more sense than charging stations

The idea of increasing the number of plug-in power chargers – especially tax-subsidized stations makes no sense

Re: Pitch for plug-in power (News April 4 ).

The idea of increasing the number of plug-in power chargers – especially tax-subsidized stations makes no sense to me.

Why can’t the automotive industry and government(s) get together and standardize a common battery specification? That way, rather than having vehicles parked at garages for hours as they recharge, when the vehicle runs low on energy it just goes to a gas station and the depleted batteries are swapped for fully charged ones, in similar fashion to how empty propane tanks are currently exchanged for full ones.
