Victoria police investigate trio of suspicious fires in Esquimalt

Investigation in its early stages say police

A series of suspicious fires In Esquimalt Saturday piqued the interest of VicPD.

Late Friday, March 23 into early Saturday morning Esquimalt Fire Department received several calls on the east side of the township, says Esquimalt Fire Chief Chris Jancowski.

“Upon arrival the crews found the first fire to be very suspicious in nature so called police,” Jancowski said. “Most times we can tell early on for smaller fires how they start. In this case there was no types of common energy.”

As Victoria Police Department arrived and assisted in the investigation, fire crews were pulled to a second fire. By the end of the night they had three separate calls including a vehicles, garbage can and signage on Ellery Street, Devonshire Road and Dominion Road.

“The first one raised doubt and then after that with the pattern that was forming it confirmed that suspicion,” Jancowski said.

VicPD takes over the investigation, working with the fire department.

“We’re investigating three suspicious fires that occurred on March 24 in Esquimalt,” said Const. Matt Rutherford, VicPd. “Investigation is in the early stages and investigators are asking for anybody with information to come forward. We will have more information as it becomes available.”
