Unemployment rate in Greater Victoria drops to 3.2 per cent

British Columbia records lowest unemployment rate across Canada

The unemployment rate in Greater Victoria dropped by 0.4 per cent to 3.2 per cent in February 2019 from the previous month. Year-to-year, the unemployment rate has dropped 1.3 per cent.

Among the four Census Metropolitan Areas (CMAs), Greater Victoria recorded the lowest unemployment rate, ahead of second-placed Kelowna (3.5 per cent), Abbotsford-Mission (5 per cent) and Vancouver (4.9 per cent). Victoria was the only CMA that recorded a decline in unemployment, with the remaining CMAs recording small increases.

Provincially, the unemployment rate fell to 4.5 per cent from 4.7 per cent in February 2019. Nationally, the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 5.8 per cent.

Newfoundland and Labrador recorded the highest unemployment rate with 11.8 per cent, British Columbia, the lowest.
