Intentional lack of enforcement will allow for tourist trade in bicycle rental at Oak Bay Marina.
Council approved the move this summer because it could take six to 12 months to process an Oak Bay Marine Group application for bylaw changes to allow bicycle rental.
“There are no similar types of land use applications in the queue and given the nature of this application staff do not believe there is a significant concern about precedent. If following the public hearing and council consideration the zoning amendment is not approved, the OBMG will be required to cease operating the business,” wrote Warren Jones, director of corporate services, in a report to council.
“It’s a really great addition to have this service at the marina, not only for residents but tourists,” said Coun. Hazel Braithwaite.
