A 56-year-old man seen driving erratically along the Trans-Canada Highway was arrested after a minor crash Sunday, and found to have a blood alcohol level three times the legal limit.
Police are looking for witnesses who saw a blue 1992 Chevy S10 pickup, described as "a rust bucket," driving dangerously along Highway 1 around 6 p.m., Sept. 11.
The truck rear-ended a vehicle at McKenzie Avenue. The driver of that vehicle called police after the pickup truck driver indicated he wasn't going to stick around.
When police arrived, four other motorists had pulled to the side of the road to indicate they had seen the suspect truck driving dangerously near Spencer Road in Langford.
The driver was arrested, suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, and taken to the Saanich police department where he failed a breathalyzer.
The man will likely face a charge for impaired driving but police are also looking to charge him with dangerous operation of a vehicle.
"We're asking any potential witnesses to come forward. … It's highly likely there was another near miss or a sideswipe or partial collision, so we want to speak with anyone who witnessed anything," said Sgt. Dean Jantzen.
