This fall, driving around Sooke will likely take even longer, with two more major road projects set to begin.
The District of Sooke announced that work on Church Road and Otter Point Point would begin in early September and end in late November.
The two projects add to a long list of work on local roadways, including the $85-million realignment of Sooke Road, between Connie and Glin Lake roads, scheduled for completion in the fall of 2022.
“It’s all coming very fast and furious,” Mayor Maja Tait said.

Work crews will upgrade utility services and resurface Church Road from Sooke Road to Wadams Way.
Meanwhile, on Otter Point Road, utility services will also be upgraded from Highway 14 to Wadams Way. The work will enhance public safety by providing sidewalks and bike lanes.
The Otter Point project was expected to start in 2024, but the district received a $1.8-million federal grant, which advanced the work timeline.
“Increasing active transportation corridors, providing safe means for residents to walk, roll and stroll throughout the community, is one strategy to help reduce carbon emissions in the community,” the district said in a statement, adding it’s aiming to reduce emissions by seven per cent every year on a path to a minimum of a 40 per cent reduction by 2030.
During the construction period, traffic disruptions can be expected, and detours may be in effect. Every effort will be made to keep local disruptions to a minimum. Construction signs will be posted, and flagpersons will be on duty to assist with the traffic flow. If night work is required, additional notice will be provided.
Hazelwood Construction Services is the contractor for both projects.
Tait said Hazelwood officials would work with affected residents to maintain access to their homes throughout the construction period.
