Siren testing scheduled for Port Renfrew, Pacheedaht and Jordan River

The systems are in the process of being set up

Testing is scheduled for early earthquake and tsunami warning systems near Port Renfrew, Pacheedaht and Jordan River next week.

Between Sunday (Dec. 10) and Friday (Dec. 15), people in the area can expect to hear loud intermittent warning sirens while testing is underway.

The systems are in the process of being set up and are not operational at this time. Testing is scheduled as follows:

• Jordan River: Sunday, Dec 10. Work will being at 9:30 a.m. and testing of the warning system will take start around 11:30.a.m.

• Port Renfrew and Pacheedaht: Tuesday, Dec 12 to Friday, Dec 15. The siren will sound intermittently between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. as system settings are adjusted, followed by a full test.

These tests are in advance of both systems becoming operational in 2018.
