Search warrant at Victoria hotel turns up drugs, cash and weapons

Man and woman known to police taken into police custody

Victoria police seized drugs, cash, stolen property and weapons and arrested a man and a woman at the City Centre Hotel on Wednesday night.

Officers executed a search warrant  around 10:30 p.m. at a room at the Douglas Street hotel and found an estimated $70,000 worth of street drugs, including crack, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, a date rape drug known as GHB, as well as a variety of prescription pills, police said.

The search also uncovered almost $10,000 of cash, various items of property later determined to be stolen, and such weapons as a stun gun and brass knuckles.

Police said the stolen property included credit cards and was linked to recent thefts from vehicles in the area.

A 32-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman, both from Victoria and known to police, were arrested at the scene. They were scheduled to appear in court Thursday.

Police were recommending several charges, including possession of controlled substances, possession of stolen property and numerous weapons-related charges.
