Saanich Police continue to search for the man who allegedly sexually assaulted a 22-year-old woman after he had entered a Saanich townhouse carrying a knife early Sunday morning.

“There are no updates this morning from this sexual assault,” said Sgt. Julie Fast of the Saanich Police Monday morning.

The attack happened at around 2 a.m. Sunday morning. Police released a statement Sunday evening at around 7:30 p.m.

“[The] release was done when time and resources allowed,” Fast noted of the timing.

The victim, from the Lower Mainland, was visiting friends studying at the University of Victoria when the attack happened in the 3900-block of Wolf Street.

Staff Sgt. Chris Horsley said Sunday the unknown man was carrying a knife when he entered the house, which was dark at the time of the attack. The victim did not know the attacker, he added.

Saanich Police describe the attacker as tall with short blonde hair and an athletic build. It is also possible that he could have been wearing glasses.

Saanich Police are asking for any witnesses who may have observed any suspicious activity at around 2 a.m. on March 17 in the area surrounding the Gordon Head Townhouse complex.

They are also asking residents to remain vigilant and lock their doors at night as some area residents have been known to leave doors unlocked.

Major crimes and forensic investigators spent most of Sunday on scene after arriving in the early morning hours.
