Saanich home sold through Civil Forfeiture

When the home was sold, 70 per cent of the value of the structure on the property was forfeited to the province.

A Saanich house was recently sold for just over $100,000 under the Civil Forfeiture Act, after a marijuana grow-op was found in the Karen Crescent residence.

Police raided the house in December 2006, arresting two people living in the home after 366 plants were found. Both individuals were charged with drug-related offences, but were found not guilty at trial.

Police then asked the Civil Forfeiture Office to seize the home. The provincial agency is set up to seize and sell property used for criminal activity.

When the home was sold, 70 per cent of the value of the structure on the property was forfeited to the province. The $75,000 that comes back to B.C. will be used to fund crime prevention programs.
