#yyj

A 15-year-old Saanich boy was arrested and charged last week following a violent armed robbery earlier this month.

Around 8:45 p.m., June 6, a 19-year-old Oak Bay man was walking through the Bank of Montreal parking lot at the intersection of Cook and Quadra streets when he was approached from behind by a man who demanded his belongings.

The suspect struck the victim twice in the side of the head with a weapon and a fight ensued before the suspect ran off.

The victim suffered two large gashes in his head, requiring 18 staples to close. He also broke his wrist during the scuffle.

Police recovered evidence at the scene that helped ID the young suspect.

Charges being forwarded against the youth, who is well known to police, include aggravated assault and robbery.
