Brothers Robert and Matthew Shirley were surprised when a tomato plant grew from a seed which fell into a crack in their backyard patio.

As an experiment, the family allowed the seed to germinate, resulting in a plant that spread some six feet around and close to five feet high. The plant was watered by a nearby dripping faucet and kept warm by the surrounding pavement, resulting in a bumper crop of large cherry tomatoes.
