Quest condo development back before public with changes to save Garry oak

Developers say changes will save historic oak tree

The Quest has started again.

The would-be condo building at 2326 Oak Bay Ave. is heads back to the public for consultation, beginning with an open house Feb. 26. The open house is to show what changes the developers, Large and Co., have made since the project was unanimously quashed by council in November 2017.

At the time residents expressed concerns of the building size and the loss of a historic Garry oak, as well as broader areas where they felt the project fell on the wrong side of the Official Community Plan.

“We heard pretty clearly what the community and council have said, and we’ve made changes in response to that,” said Kim Colpman, director of property development for Large and Co.. “We’ve changed the underground parking, the landscaping and essentially the mass height of the building. All of that is really in response to the desire to preserve the neighbours’ tree, and we are now able to do that.”

The meeting takes place at the Windsor Pavillion (2451 Windosr Rd.). Colpman said the presentation is scheduled to start at 7 p.m., though boards showing the update plans will be ready for viewing earlier, at around 6:45 p.m.. She expects the formal portion of the meeting to last about half an hour.
