Arson, a vehicle theft, and mental health calls kept Oak Bay police officers busy last week.
As reported by The Oak Bay News, on Jan. 7 police responded to a report of arson. A 25-year-old woman was arrested and is being held until her court appearance Jan. 15. Police did not identify the woman, though they did say she is known to them and had arson charges recommended against her in the past.

Also on Jan. 7, police responded to a pedestrian struck at the intersection of Foul Bay Road and Cadboro Bay Road. Police report that the person was transported to hospital with minor injuries, while the driver was issued a ticket.
In the afternoon of Jan. 8, police responded to a report of an agitated man carrying a pickaxe along Oak Bay Ave. He was taken into custody unharmed, though police reported earlier that the man needed to be tackled by officers. Police initially told The Oak Bay News that this incident would be considered a mental health call, and have since reported that the man was also under the influence of drugs. He was transported to hospital and held for further assessment.

On Jan. 11 a vehicle was stolen from a home in the 3000 block of Lansdowne Road. Police say the suspect stole the ignition keys by way of an unlocked front door. The vehicle has not been found.
On Jan. 13 police responded to a report of a possible domestic dispute near Foul Bay Road and Carrick Street. It turned out the female was suffering from a mental health breakdown, and was assisted by the officer – who is also a licensed paramedic.
Later that evening, a vehicle was stopped along Beach Drive. The driver was then arrested, issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition, and their vehicle was impounded for 30 days after police determined the driver was impaired by alcohol.
