Police briefs: two break and enters last week in Oak Bay

Two break and enters to residences

The Oak Bay Police Department dealt with a couple of reports of break and enters to residences last week.

The first case occurred in the 600 block of Radcliffe Lane on Oct. 16. According to police, the suspect was able to gain access into the residence and stole some items. On Oct. 18, Ladysmith RCMP advised that they had arrested a male who had a multitude of stolen property, and one of those items happened to be from the break and enter in Oak Bay. Police identified the male suspect and are recommending changes for possession of stolen property.

The second break and enter occurred in the 2300 block of Lansdowne Road on Oct. 19. According to police, the homeowner who was home at the time observed the suspect in the kitchen. The suspect fled the residence but was located nearby and arrested. Police are recommending charges of break and enter.

Two abandoned bicycles found

If you are missing two bicycles, they are at the Oak Bay Police Department, where they can be claimed by the rightful owners. Police found the two bicycles, which had been abandoned in the 600 block of Victoria Avenue, on Oct. 17. Police are encouraging residents to take advantage of their bike registry program, which can facilitate the quick and smooth return of bikes to their owners.

Stolen bicycle and cart returned to rightful owners

The District of Oak Bay’s public works department located an abandoned bicycle and cart in the 3400 block of Beach Drive on Oct. 18. According to police, both the bicycle and cart had been stolen 24 hours prior at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club. Both have been returned to the rightful owners.

Homeless camp at Cattle Point

On the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 17, a homeless camp arrived at the Cattle Point area of Uplands Park. Police met with managers from the District of Oak Bay and with the campers, who were served with a trespass notice Thursday to leave the site the next day. The campers complied and left Cattle Point at around 4 p.m. Friday.

Impaired driver issued a 90-day driving prohibition

Police were conducting roving patrols in the area of Cedar Hill Cross Road and Henderson Road on Oct. 21 when a vehicle was observed weaving in its lane. Police initiated a traffic stop and found the driver to be impaired. The vehicle was impounded and the individual was issued a 90-day driving prohibition.

District of Oak Bay’s power saw stolen

A Stihl power saw, which belongs to the District of Oak Bay’s public works department, was stolen while crews were working in the area of Upper Terrace Road and Cotwolds Road on Oct. 16.
