Officers unite to find lost child

7-year-old child with special needs was lost after wandering away from home

Oak Bay police assisted Saanich police in finding a child last week.

A 7-year-old child with special needs was lost after wandering away from home.

“Whenever there is a call involving a child at risk, officers from all jurisdictions drop everything to assist,” said Deputy Chief Ray Bernoties.

Officers found the child who was cold and wet and appeared scared. After providing her with a jacket, hot chocolate and a muffin, she was reunited with her mother.

Police say additional measures have been taken in the home to prevent a re-occurrence.
