A woman selling chocolates purportedly for the Canadian Cancer Society tried to hock her product to the wrong passerby.

At 3 p.m. Sunday, the 41-year-old woman approached an off-duty officer at the Esquimalt Plaza, representing herself as a volunteer for the society.

The Victoria police officer noted she had no identification and confronted her.

The woman, from Esquimalt, fled on foot, and the officer chased her. Other police officers arrived and the woman was arrested.

She was released on a promise to appear for one count of false pretense.
