A driver had his vehicle impounded for 30 days for refusing to provide a breath sample for police.

Officers saw a man who appeared intoxicated leave a pub on Oak Bay Avenue Dec. 29 and stopped him once he was in a vehicle. However, the man was unable to provide a suitable sample of his breath despite several attempts, police said. The 84-year-old man was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days for refusing to provide a sample.

Holiday checkpoint

An officer noted a smell of liquor on a driver during a check stop on Dec. 23.

Oak Bay police set up the roadblock at Cadboro Bay and Eastdowne roads. After an officer smelled liquor, they administered a roadside screening, police said. The test showed a ‘warn’ and the driver was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition and the vehicle was towed.

Wine thief targets garage

Oak Bay police received a report on Dec. 27 of an overnight theft from a motor vehicle in the 3500-block of Upper Terrace. The suspect stole a pair of prescription glasses and a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses.

The same day someone reported a break and enter to an unlocked garage in the 200-block of Prince Andrew Place. The suspect stole a few bottles of wine and a bicycle described as a women’s black and red Trek 10 speed with grey platform pedals.

Seven-day impound for suspended driver

A prohibited driver has a date with the court after a stop Jan. 2 on Oak Bay Avenue.

While on patrol, an officer ran a licence plate through police records that showed the registered owner as a prohibited driver. After a traffic stop, the 19-year-old woman driving was confirmed to be prohibited from driving and was issued a notice to attend court and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
