Oak Bay police remind residents to lock their vehicles after another surge of thefts.

During foot patrols on one night shift last week, officers came across approximately 40 unlocked vehicles.

Oak Bay Police have had many lost cell phones turned in by the public. The vast majority are password protected, thereby making ownership difficult to ascertain. One suggestion is for the owner to place a secondary contact number on the password screen (check manual for instructions) or a decal on the back of the phone. This will allow police to determine ownership quickly and return the phone.

Impaired stops

Among the 122 calls for services last week, police conducted two separate impaired investigations resulting in the drivers being issued 90-day driving prohibitions and their vehicles impounded for 30 days.
