Oak Bay fire latest hire comes from Kelowna

Darren Lee starts as assistant fire chief April 16 after coming from West Kelowna department

Oak Bay’s newest assistant fire chief returns to the Island from Kelowna next month.

Darren Lee started his fire service with North Cowichan Fire Department before he took a full time position with the Surrey Fire Service for 10 years. He then moved on to the West Kelowna Fire Department as an assistant chief from 2007 to next month when he returns to the Island for the same role in Oak Bay.

Lee comes with a wide range of leadership and management experience, says the district release announcing his hire.

“Darren also has signification experience in emergency management with his roles in wild land fire fighting and was deployed to multiple locations during the recent provincial fires as well as to the flooding in the province last spring and summer,” the release says.

Lee holds a Bachelor of Fire and Safety Studies through the Justice Institute of British Columbia and the University of Victoria.

Don Roskelley retired as assistant chief in Oak Bay last December.

Lee starts April 16.
