Oak Bay council raises follow cost of living guideline

Mayor, councillors receive small cost-of-living raise for 2017

Since the late 1990s, Oak Bay council follows the cost of living when it comes to raises. That continues this year as council agreed to their pay during the Nov. 28 meeting.

For 2017 the mayor receives $29,363 while each councillor is paid $12,461 and for each, one-third is paid as an allowance for expenses incidental to the discharge of the duties of office.

The slight raise follows the path set in 1997 where the adjustment is based on the year-over-year change in the consumer price index for Victoria, as of September.
