Organizers with the B.C. Thanksgiving Food Drive are giving their thanks after about 17,700 kilograms of food was collected in Greater Victoria.
About 500 volunteers visited more than 15,000 doorsteps on Sept. 17 – the first time the food drive was expanded to include Greater Victoria.
Food collected will be given to the Mustard Seed Food Bank, the Goldstream Food Bank Society, the Sidney Lions Food Bank and the Salt Spring Island Community Food Bank.
“It means a lot to us,” said Brent Palmer, director of Mustard Seed Food Bank. “This is another component that we didn’t have before, so it will certainly boost our stocks.”
About 113,400 kilograms of food valued at $670,000 was collected throughout the province during the event, spearheaded by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
