Seniors’ housing is moving forward in Saanich.

On Aug. 3, partners in the Mount View Campus of Care development announced more details on the construction of Carey Place, a 55-unit seniors’ housing project, operated by Baptist Housing.

Through an amendment to the Canada-British Columbia Affordable Housing Agreement, the federal and provincial governments are contributing a combined total of $4 million for 27 affordable seniors’ rental housing apartments within the building. Baptist Housing provided more than $3.25 million in cash equity for the project.

Carey Place, located at 3812 Carey Rd., is anticipated to be complete by May 2012. It will include 27 units for low-income seniors and 27 for seniors in need. Six will be owned by the Capital Regional District.

The Mount View Heights Campus of Care project also includes plans for a seven-storey 244-bed residential care facility, a six-storey, 112-unit independent seniors living home and a commercial building.
