Marine markers can be dangerous

The Fleet Dive Unit out of CFB Esquimalt was contacted and they safely removed the device.

On June 8 police responded to a report of a “rocket” that was found on a beach in south Oak Bay. The person who found the device immediately contacted police and did not touch it.

Police identified it as a marine location marker. The Fleet Dive Unit out of CFB Esquimalt was contacted and they safely removed the device.

“These devices do find their way to our beaches, and the public are asked not to touch or move them but to call their local police department,” said acting Sgt. Angus Wagnell.
