Jaws of life needed after teen wraps Mustang around tree in Saanich

The jaws of life were needed to free a 17-year-old boy trapped in the driver’s seat  after his red Mustang crashed into a tree around suppertime Saturday.

Witnesses told police the car was driving east on Midgard Avenue when it left the road and struck a tree in front of a home. The Mustang spun around 180 degrees trapping the driver, who suffered head injuries from the collision.

A 16-year-old girl riding as a passenger in the car was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Speed, heavy rain and inexperience behind the wheel are among the factors being investigated.
