iPod misunderstanding leads to violent altercation in Esquimalt

A misplaced iPod led to violence in Esquimalt last weekend.

Victoria police say an intoxicated couple got into a heated argument as they walked the train tracks near Lampson Street and Devonshire Road on March 31 around 4:30 p.m.

When the man's female companion told him she had likely lost his iPod music player, he punched a sign, splitting open his hand.

Upset at the sight of the man's bloody knuckles, the woman repeatedly hit her companion's head, Deputy Police Chief John Ducker said on the department's online blog.

"The man then pushed back, smearing blood from his wounded hand all over her face," Ducker wrote. "Ironically, after the pair were arrested and their effects searched, the iPod at the root of trouble was located in the woman’s backpack."

While en route to hospital for a checkup, police learned the woman was wanted by West Shore RCMP for breaching a conditional sentence. Charges are being contemplated.
