Nineteen new projects across the Capital Regional Hospital District were green-lit last week and put on a 10-year financing term.

Of the projects, the most costly is a fire protection system upgrade and expansion at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital at $1.4 million. The hospital board will foot $560,000 of the bill, following the decision to contribute a total of $4,776,423 in cash toward minor capital projects for upgrading existing health facilities. The total equates to 16 per cent of the Vancouver Island Health Authority’s 2011 budget for minor capital expenditures. The budget covers 19 already approved projects, including a $1.8-million steam boiler at Royal Jubilee Hospital.
