Hit the lights and cozy up with candles

Oak Bay rec and firehall snuff the lights for Earth Hour tomorrow

Visitors to Oak Bay Rec’s Bee Street Sportsview lounge can sip their beers by candlelight this Saturday night.

Electric lighting will be shut off during Earth Hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 31. Lights will be dimmed but not shut off in the aquatic centre.

At Oak Bay firehall the five firefighters on duty will shut off all unnecessary lights

“We do keep one apparatus floor light on, enough so you can see,” said Fire Chief Gerry Adam.

In 2011 more than 5,200 cities and towns in 135 countries switched off their lights for Earth Hour. The five-year-old lights-out campaign was founded and is organized by Sidney, Australia-based Earth Hour Global which advocates for climate change action.
