Heritage commission annual report up for discussion Friday

Oak Bay council’s strategic planning meeting considers Oak Bay Heritage Commission annual report

The Oak Bay Heritage Commission annual report makes an appearance during Oak Bay council’s strategic planning today (Jan. 13) at municipal hall.

Coun. Eric Zhelka threw out the idea for council to consider pursuing some of the suggestions in the document.

“We have only 29 homes on the Oak Bay heritage register which for me is an embarrassment … with a district as old as we are,” Zhkela said.

The idea of putting it up for discussion was easily supported by the rest of council.

“My sense is this commission is working very hard to make heritage preservation in this community more protective,” said Coun. Tara Ney. “Some of the action items … they’re looking for ways to strengthen our practices and policies.”

Strategic planning starts at 1 p.m. in council chambers, 2167 Oak Bay Ave.
