Hearing in Heisler death case delayed again

Elderly driver faces traffic charge from September 2010 incident

The court date for an 80-year-old woman accused of striking an Oak Bay senior with her vehicle last year has been rescheduled a fifth time.

Johanna Heisler, 82, was walking across Beach Drive at Bowker Avenue in a marked crosswalk at about 2 p.m. on Sept. 25 when she was struck by a vehicle driven by Patricia Ashley Taylor of Saanich.

Heisler’s pelvis and leg were broken and she sustained serious head injuries. She was rushed to Victoria General Hospital, where she died of a heart attack hours later.

Oak Bay police said Taylor, who was 79 at the time of the crash, was not speeding and had not been drinking. She was charged with driving without due care and attention under the Motor Vehicle Act. She simply didn’t stop for Heisler, investigators determined.

Taylor was first scheduled to appear in court Feb. 3. Her next court date is set for Aug. 23.
