Anyone interested in learning more about Oak Bay’s budget process or looking to have a say on proposed new initiatives, can join District council and staff at Oak Bay’s upcoming Budget Open House.

As the next phase of Oak Bay’s Strategic Planning & Budgeting process, the public has an opportunity to engage with the District’s council and staff at the open house, set for 6 to 8 p.m. on March 28 at Oak Bay municipal hall.

“It will be pretty interesting. It’s the first time we’ve done something like this,” said Mayor Kevin Murdoch. “We are tying everything together – the strategic plan to the budgeting process.”

The open house allows council to get public feedback and input before the estimates meetings begin, where traditionally, the public input portion occured afterwards.

To help residents understand and participate in the strategic planning and budgeting processes, a web page on the District’s site was set up as a central place to access all related information.

Resources such as annual reports, asset management in formation, financial statements and the official community plan can all be found at oakbay.ca.

Estimates meetings follow on the heels of the open house, in early April.

The final budget is due May 14.
