Grant benefits Sooke homeless with mental health support

Fund through Sooke and Juan de Fuca Health Foundation provides $5,000

Homeless people in Sooke will receive a helping hand to find mental-health support, thanks to the Sooke and Juan de Fuca Health Foundation.

Through the Mary Brown Memorial Fund, the foundation has provided a $5,000 grant to the Sooke Shelter Society.

“The Sooke and Juan de Fuca Health Foundation grant will make a remarkable difference in the health and wellbeing of our most vulnerable community. We are so grateful and thankful for the Sooke and Juan de Fuca Health Foundation’s support and encouragement,” said Sherry Thompson, Sooke Shelter Society’s executive director.

Mary Brown lived for many years in Shirley. She was a social worker and psychiatric social worker and spent her career supporting individuals with disabilities and mental health challenges in Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia.

The Sooke and Juan de Fuca Health Foundation’s mandate is to invest in the well-being of local communities by identifying and addressing local needs through grants to non-profit organizations.
