A real debt collector came calling over a fraudulent phone account in Oak Bay.
On Thursday (Feb. 23), the Oak Bay Police Department received a fraud report from a resident who had received a letter from Credit Bureau of Canada Collections advising them they owed more than $1,600 for non-payment on their Freedom Mobile account. The resident contacted the collection agency to report they did not have a Freedom Mobile account and had no knowledge of the non-payments on the account. The agency directed the resident to contact police to report the fraud.
The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 57 calls for service between Feb. 20 and 27.
Car stolen from rec centre lot
On Sunday (Feb. 26), the department received a report of a stolen vehicle from the Oak Bay Recreation Centre parking lot at 1975 Bee St. The owner reported their keys missing from an insecure storage area at the centre and a short time later discovered their car missing from the lot.
The vehicle is a dark grey 2007 Toyota Camry with B.C. licence plate SL8 49R.
