Crews were busy packing up for campers and cleaning up trash on the site of Victoria's tent city homeless encampment Monday morning.

Crews, in white protective suits, were busy this morning packing up belongings and cleaning up trash in Victoria's notorious tent city which is being shut down today following a court order.

The court order was issued after the camp was deemed unsafe.

Local and provincial governments have created hundreds of new spaces to accommodate the campers and other local homeless.

The camp was initially broadly supported but issues with drug use and safety concerns saw the community increasingly concerned about the site.

The homeless encampment did bring attention to local issues surrounding poverty, housing, mental illness and substance abuse.
