Around 2 a.m. the Brodick Crescent resident was woken up when his front door was loudly kicked in. He went to his living room to investigate, and saw a man hiding behind his Christmas tree.

When confronted, the intruder tried to flee before he was restrained by the home’s occupant.

Saanich police Sgt. Dean Jantzen said the suspect was "screaming for help from police" when officers arrived.

The man, who was intoxicated, was arrested.

After he sobered up the following morning, he was interviewed by police but could not remember the incident.
