A house in East Sooke was destroyed by fire Thursday night.

East Sooke Volunteer Fire Department was called out to the fire at 9 p.m. where the Jupiter Place house was “fully engulfed,” said Andy Orr, senior communications manager with the Capital Regional District.

Orr said the fire is believed to have started in the house or garage and spread quickly throughout the structure. It also created hot spots on neighbouring properties.

Three people escaped from the house safely and are under the care of emergency social services.

The department had all the fires extinguished at about 5 a.m., but said crews remained on-site at that time to look for potential spot fires. East Sooke also thanked the Metchosin, Sooke and Otter Point fire departments for responding.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The fire department urges care in the region’s forests.

“It’s still really dry out there. The wildfire danger is extreme,” Orr said.
