Two more staff members of Esquimalt’s Sunset Lodge long-term care home have tested positive for COVID-19.

Island Health declared an outbreak at the care home on Friday after three staff members tested positive. The two additional cases were detected through testing done at the site on Friday.

As of Saturday, Island Health said no residents are experiencing symptoms and the risk remains low. Communication with residents, families and other staff is ongoing.

The health authority said it’s working with the Salvation Army-owned care home to respond to the outbreak and protect the health of all residents and staff.

A news release said the site has implemented safety measures such as requiring masking for all staff, allowing only essential visits and added screening and testing.
