All of council, with the exception of Coun. Tara Ney who is out of country, attended the event to bid adieu to the old Oak Bay High School May 23.
“We had people who graduated many years ago,” said Mayor Nils Jensen. Returnees hailed as far back as the class of 1941. Four alumni passed on the four pillars of arts, academics, athletics and citizenship to current Grade 11 students who will take that ethos into the new school – symbolically transferring the pillars of the school from one place to the other.
“We certainly wish the old school well,” Jensen said. “When an old monarch dies they say long live the queen or long live the king, so long live Oak Bay High School.”
