Coroners Service confirms identity of Victoria driver in fatal crash

The driver of a car involved in a fatal single-vehicle crash on the Malahat last Saturday has been identified as Ian David Slaco, 44, of Victoria.

The B.C. Coroners Service was able to release the man’s identity Tuesday, following notification of his family.

Slaco had been driving northbound on Highway 1 over the Malahat in the early morning hours of March 16 when his car went out of control and over an embankment. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The coroner and RCMP continue to investigate the crash.
