The colours are set for the annual fundraising competition that pits chefs against each other in a challenge to use colour creatively.

During the Colour Your Palate competition, chefs from across Greater Victoria present one canapé that incorporates the colour they drew during the launch event last week. Their individual colours, selected last week, remain a secret until the gala event April 11. The competition raises funds for the artsREACH Society, which delivers free arts workshops in Capital Region public elementary schools, to children who would not receive and benefit from high-quality arts training otherwise. Since 2005, more than 25,000 children in the Capital Region have participated in an artsREACH workshop, taught by professional artists, actors, dancers and filmmakers. The free workshops are delivered in public elementary schools identified as having a high percentage of low-income families, to ensure that all children have the opportunity to develop life skills by exploring their potential through arts experiences. At the gala event, canapés are judged blind by industry experts and eligible for awards. Attendees sample each of the entries and vote for the People’s Choice winner. The 10th annual Colour Your Palate is April 11 at the Victoria Conference Centre. Tickets are $95 in advance, available online at artsreach.ca/colour-your-palate.
