Clearly Lasik co-founder jailed for murder plot

The co-founder of Clearly Lasik was sentenced to 20 years in prison in a Washington State court room last week for his part in a murder-for-hire scheme targeting his Saanich-based business partner.

Eye doctor Michael Mockovak was given the maximum sentence available in U.S. federal court March 17 for orchestrating a scheme to have his business partner, Joseph King, and former company president, Brad Klock, killed for potentially splitting up the business.

Mockovak approached Russian Clearly Lasik employee Daniel Kultin, believing that Kultin might have ties to the Russian mob. Kultin went to the FBI.

Defense lawyers argued that Mockovak's plan to pay an assassin $25,000 and Kultin $100,000 for planning the murder was just a joke.

Mockovak was convicted of criminal solicitation to commit murder, attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
