Just after 1 p.m., crews were called to serious head-on collision near the Leigh Road overpass on the Trans-Canada Highway Sunday.

The crash occurred north of Leigh Road in the southbound lane of the on-ramp.

At least four people and two vehicles were involved in the incident, and at least one person was trapped inside one of the vehicles.

West Shore RCMP confirmed that the crash resulted in life-threatening injuries.

Langford Fire Rescue, West Shore RCMP and multiple ambulance units were on scene.

As of 4 p.m., West Shore RCMP remain on scene while a traffic reconstructionist with the department’s traffic unit works with general duty officers to determine the cause of the collision. Traffic is being re-routed from both directions, and officials speculate the road will be closed for several hours. A detour through West Shore Parkway is available.

Later, BC Coroners was also on scene.

RCMP asks anyone who witnessed the collision to call them at 250-474-2264, or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477.
